Meet Ember: The Newest Member of Your Team!
Introducing Campfire’s AI agent and the newest member of your team, Ember! We’ve natively built Ember into your accounting software so you have the ability to quickly and easily analyze any piece of financial data and even upload spreadsheets to augment your data.
Ember is the financial analyst that drafts a quarterly budget, estimates cashflow in future periods, builds custom graphs and tables or custom metrics like LTV/CAC.
Ember is the staff accountant that performs bank reconciliations, prepares flux analyses with commentary, or audits financials on your monthly transactions before you close the period.
Working with Ember is like working with any other member of your team - review its work, share feedback, and watch them improve how they perform tasks.
You’ll ask Ember to complete a task, Ember will prepare your first draft, and you can review its work and provide feedback to improve future drafts. Just like a person, Ember can explain its logic and reasoning and show all source data for full auditability. The first draft is never the final draft, but having a starting point to build on certainly helps!

But, how does Ember work? It uses multi-step reasoning to analyze source data across every row in your general ledger, sub-ledgers and financial reports. It can solve edge cases and can interpret abstract concepts. It can analyze millions of rows of accounting data to perform tasks and analysis that are not feasible for humans.
Let’s take flux commentary as an example. It’s not always easy to spot why there was a monthly change. First, Ember would run a comparison of the two months. Then, it identifies deviations in the numbers by analyzing each transaction for those months, whether its 10 or 10 million rows of data. After that, ember shares its analysis and explains its reasoning and logic while providing the underlying source data for your review and audit support.
We know the tolerance for error in accounting and financial reporting is zero. So, we’ve put ample controls in place to monitor and audit our work as we continue to develop our AI. We’ve built Ember on a set LLM version, so the AI is not evolving without our consent. We fine tune at a customer level. When we consider moving to a new LLM version, we run many engineering tests and evaluations. After communicating the upcoming changes to customers, then we level up the model to take advantage of the latest in AI developments.
We’ve also taken every precaution to ensure any data fed into Ember is as secure as possible. Working with financial data, this is non-negotiable. For full transparency, we use Anthropic. Per Anthropics terms of service, data from commercial customers like Campfire is not used for training in any way. It is not stored and it is not visible to any outside parties. Campfire and Anthropic take security seriously, similar to your cloud providers and other vendors holding your sensitive data.
If you’re not ready to use AI, please note that Ember is an optional feature in Campfire. It’s entirely opt-in, and you will still have access to all of Campfire's other automations even if you choose not to use our AI capabilities! But, we do hope you can give it a try.
